Dear Mr. President,

I was very happy to learn about the initiative to organize the Wikimania 2010 worldwide conference in Gdańsk. It will be my pleasure to grant my honorary patronage to this important and prestigious event.

I am certain that the choice of Gdańsk as place of this meeting was not accidental. It is a place with rich and diverse history which many times has had an influence on the history of Poland, Europe and the world. I am convinced that the fundament of this lies in the importance which the people of Gdańsk attach to freedom and independence. I believe it was the acknowledgment of those values that made you choose Gdańsk. Today we are lucky in live in a free and democratic country where citizens can enjoy freedom of speech and universal access to information.

On behalf of myself and the authorities of Gdańsk I assure you we will take an active part in organization of event of such importance to our city. We are aware of the fact that the current generation more and more uses the Internet as their source of information. It is therefore our role to make the chances of access to general knowledge more equal and to help enhance both the quality of the culture based on the written word and the free educational content.
