Jakatra[edit]
I reverted your edit on af.wiki. If I remeber correctly Jakatra was a village not far from the Dutch settlement Batavia in the 17th cent. The Indonesians renamed the (much expanded) Batavia to Jakarta centuries later. Why the matathesis I don't know. But in historical sources people speak of Jakatra. - Hi, thanks for your message. However, the text I edited refers to the 19th century, so I don't think a historical name from the 17th century (which is more often referred to as Jayakarta btw, if I looked this up correctly) should be used there, it seems slightly anachronistic in this place. --Icodense (talk) 20:38, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- After further research, as I found this random metathesis of these two letters pretty interesting: I think it has never really been called Jakatra (apart from typos), the transposed r and t only seem to be originally found in the spelling Jacatra in Portuguese documents, I guess this spelling derives from an error of Tomé Pires. --Icodense (talk) 20:46, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
