Code of ethics and conduct of Egypt Wikimedians User Group

This document outlines the governing structure and procedures for Egypt Wikimedians User Group.

Here is the Code of Conduct for the Wikimedia Users Group in Egypt, which aims to regulate the interaction between the group's members, maintain team spirit and mutual respect, and prevent any harmful and undesirable behaviors.

Please note that these policies apply only to matters within the group, meaning that they do not apply to the Arabic Wikipedia pages or any other Wikimedia project, as what happens there is handled according to the policies and regulations in those projects, and the group's management does not interfere.

Objective

Wikimedia Users Group in Egypt is a volunteer group that works to spread free knowledge and strives to create a relaxed and open volunteering environment that accommodates everyone regardless of their personal, intellectual, ideological, or ethnic differences. Therefore, the rules aim to protect the group's members and maintain a friendly and disciplined work environment.

These rules apply to all gatherings that concern the entire group, whether they are live or electronic meetings, including, but not limited to: the mailing list, chat groups, discussion forums, online audio and video meetings, and other events, meetings, workshops, and meetings on the ground.

These rules also apply to all members, including the Board of Trustees, staff, executive and subsidiary committees, and any teams and activities that are officially affiliated with the Wikimedia Users Group in Egypt, including the Education Program groups, competitions, and so on.

These rules apply to the behavior of the group's members and aim to reject any harmful or undesirable behaviors, and therefore the following rules and policies apply:

Personal Attacks are Prohibited

The personal attack is meant to insult and describe a person in an inappropriate or ugly way, or to interfere with his person or what belongs to him, whether his family or the group to which he belongs. Everyone has the right to speak freely or criticize others, whether criticizing their actions, behavior, contributions, or works, but without going into his person himself. Honor, dignity, and personal boundaries are protected and a red line that should not be violated. It is also not permissible to attack or accuse anyone in any way or form, or to accuse him without evidence or to issue judgments against them, or to intentionally harass them, and the one who responds to the abuse with another abuse or attack is not excluded from this rule, as he is considered in the same rank as the first attacker, and both are subject to punishment regardless of who started it.

Privacy and Personal Matters are important

The group and all Wikimedia projects are also based on the principles of respecting privacy, and the group's members must respect the privacy of their colleagues and not violate it. It is not permissible to publish any personal information about the group's members without their permission. It is not permissible to publish pictures or quotes from private conversations between members without their permission and a strong justification. You should avoid asking other members for personal information (such as phone numbers) except for the obvious necessity, and it is not permissible to repeat such a request if it is rejected out of respect for privacy and personal wishes.

No Harassment in all forms

It is forbidden to have any discrimination or racism against any group, whether based on color, religion, sex, race, identity, sect, or affiliation. This includes all matters, decisions, and dealings between members. The group aims to nurture all kinds of knowledge, culture, and the spirit of volunteering and the culture of giving, and because the group includes people from different affiliations, any discrimination or racism destroys those noble goals that it adopts, as well as destroys the spirit and cooperation between members and destroys the principles on which the group was based. Therefore, there is no leniency with issues of discrimination or racism within the group, which may result in punishment.

The group has nothing to do with the disputes within the Wikimedia projects

Any disputes concerning Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia or other projects, whether they are disputes related to the content, rules, or the behavior of administrators, editors, or users have nothing to do with the group, but rather concern the local communities and these issues should be discussed within them. It is not permissible to export any problems of this type within the group, even if the members of the group are the same users of those projects affiliated with the institution. Such disputes create many quarrels and personal disputes between members. Also, the group has its independence and goals we need to focus on them.

Defamation is not allowed

When there is a crime, violation, complaint, or problem concerning a member, it must first be sent to the Executive Director or the Board of Trustees to investigate it, and then a decision will be issued regarding it. It is not permissible to skip this step or rush to spread accusations affecting a member, whether within the group, through social media pages, Or the media, these accusations may be false or malicious, which may cause harm and tarnish the reputation of a member of the group. Therefore, it is necessary for higher authorities to first verify the veracity of these accusations before publishing them to everyone.

Be Open-Minded and respect for others

Egypt contains many cultures, cultural, geographic, and ideological differences, and different sects, and the group contains individuals of various diversities and affiliations. Therefore, we must expect the presence of differences in opinions and differences that do not spoil the cordiality of an issue and accept that with all cordiality. Whatever the topic. The group does not have a single intellectual orientation and it is not permissible to impose any affiliation on the members, We must respect all religions, beliefs, and movements.

Ensuring joint work

The group, like all other wiki projects, is based on cooperative and participatory work. All of its members work for one basic goal, which is to spread free knowledge for good and the common good. We must always remember that the members of the group are volunteers who donate their time for this goal. We are gathered to spread goodness and we expect that everyone share this goal with us in good faith and with great passion that should be appreciated.

Avoid controversial topics

Some topics are controversial, such as football, politics, and religion, and they usually create problems and disagreements that may escalate undesirably, lead to undesirable results, and spoil the spirit and atmosphere of cooperation among members. It is usually preferable to avoid talking about such topics with the rest of the members, and if you feel that the discussion On any topic has become acute, you must stop so that the matter does not escalate further.

Assume good faith

One of the most famous policies in Wikipedia is the policy of assuming good faith, which has been reflected in many users and is indeed one of the basics of dealing, especially over the Internet. Sometimes there may be wrong impressions or misunderstandings resulting from problems in communication between the parties because it is not face-to-face communication, and therefore it must be All members must first assume good faith unless proven otherwise, as anything may have happened unintentionally.

Avoid promotion and disturbance

It is not permissible to exploit the group or any activities within it to promote any services or products and publicize any ideas, events, or projects without obtaining approval from the Board of Trustees, even if these projects are non-profit or have noble goals. Things must be done in an organized and thoughtful manner. Otherwise, it may turn into chaos. It is also not permissible to spam or disturb others, whether through chat channels or discussions.

Dealing with abuses

The above rules and guidelines are applied without tolerance against any violations proven to have occurred, and the entire administrative structure of the group is responsible for implementing the rules of conduct. When violations occur, the violators will be alerted first, and in serious violations, they must be sent to your direct Manager or the executive director of the group, and then the Board of Trustees will be notified and make a decision.

The Board of Trustees will investigate the matter and choose the appropriate punishment, which ranges from drawing attention, then temporary dismissal, suspending membership, and then canceling membership. Please Note that any crimes punishable by Egyptian law will be referred to the authorities.
