Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?

  • The content will be focus on creating and improving LGBT+ related articles on Wikipedia and also adding related images as there is low representation of Nigeria LGBT contents on the Wikipedia.
  • There will also be trainings for new and old participants so they can learn how to create and improve LGBT+ related articles.
  • A press conference will also be conducted to give information about the contest on June 1st.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I have posted notification in the discussion page of Wikimedia user group Nigeria to notify the community about this project and the project will also be promoted on social media for larger audience and various Wikimedia community platforms.

3. How will you let participants know about the contest? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

This will be done mainly through social media promotions and our queer wiki mainling lists with hundreds of queer who have been trained overtime.

4. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?
Note: Grantees, judges, and other contest leaders are ineligible to receive prizes. Grantees who are serving as judges may not receive gifts through grant funding.

An unbiased and independent jury will be set up and their work is to judge all the articles submitted based on the rules of the contest. The editor with the highest points will be declared overall winner. Below is the scoring system that will be used to score participants and award eligible winners.
  • +10 points for every new LGBT+ article created on English Wikipedia.
  • +5 points for each new translation of a Wikipedia article about LGBT+ to any Nigerian language.
  • +1 point for each image added to a Wikipedia article about LGBT+ in any Nigerian language

5. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

Yes, only for the press conference and trainings.

  • The project will further increase the participation of more Nigerians to LGBTQ topics.
  • The training and press conference will be inform of hybrid type: both physical and online.
