Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We will be participating in this year’s Art + Feminism edit-a-thon on Sunday March 12th with a three hour workshop dedicated to training XFR Collective members on how to edit in Wikipedia. This is the first time XFR Collective has joined the annual  Art + Feminism edit-a-thon, and, as our members get more comfortable as Wikipedia editors, we hope to participate in other editing events dedicated to different themes.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

Since this event is only open to XFR Collective members, I have reached out on our internal communication channels: Slack, Trello, Google Groups. On the day of the event, we will be posting about our progress on our social media sites: Facebook and Twitter.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

The event will be lead by User:Analeighmarie. While relatively new to editing, she has been active in the wikipedia community by attending events and workshops. She has also joined the Art + Feminism Slack channel for guidance. Several attendees have reported that they also have experience in editing.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Members of the XFR Collective are archivists, librarians and artists well versed in academic research and writing. Each member will bring a laptop.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will post updates to our social media feeds during and after the event. We will also debrief members who were not in attendance at our next monthly meeting.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

XFR Collective is a non-profit organization that partners with artists, activists, individuals, and groups to lower the barriers to preserving at-risk audiovisual media – especially unseen, unheard, or marginalized works – by providing low-cost digitization services and fostering a community of support for archiving and access through education, research, and cultural engagement.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events: 1
  2. Number of participants: 6-10
  3. Number of new editors: 4-10
  4. Number of of articles created or improved: 15-20

Resources[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

One of our members has generously agreed to host the event at her home. We will be bringing our own equipment (i.e. personal laptops/projection equipment) and power supplies.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.

  • Food, drink and coffee = $200 USD
  • Cab fare to pick up refreshments/transport equipment = $50 USD
  • Total = $250 USD
