Felipe da Fonseca[edit]

Not ending before 15 May 2021 14:44 (UTC)

I am translating several pages of Metawiki about the Universal Code of Conduct and hope to continue to serve as a bridge between, on the one hand WMF and Meta, and on the other hand pt.wiki. For my translations see my contributions. Sometimes I need to mark pages for translation, and for this I need access to the administration tool (see: diff).

On my work at pt.wiki regarding this interaction between WMF, Meta and en.wiki, which needs constant translations, see: pt:Wikipédia:Esplanada/propostas/Local na esplanada reservado à assuntos da WMF (6mai2021), pt:Wikipédia:Esplanada/geral/Aproximando a metawiki das comunidades de base e estas entre si (3mai2021) e pt:Wikipédia:Esplanada/geral/Código Universal de Conduta (6mai2021).As a general project of approaching see: Wikimedia Forum#Closing the gap to and between the base communities --Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 14:44, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pols12, yes, now I am aware of it. I have prepared the following page: User:Felipe da Fonseca/test. It is probably not entirely correct and I had difficulty with the link preparation, if you can help me I would appreciate it. Thanks,--Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 17:25, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are several issues in your segmentation:
  • In most cases, you should not close a translate tag and open a new one just after; lets new lines make the job instead. (“General principles”) By the way note that the parser removes the full line when it only contains a translate tag. (“Tag placing”)
  • For templates, you should only wrap content text inside translate tags, not the full template. (“Tag placing”)
  • The tvar syntax has been recently updated: we should now use content instead of content. (“Variables”)
Besides:
  • You should add {{#translation:}} parser function after category name to allow each translation to be categorized in its own language category. (Meta guidelines, #Categorization)
  • You should not force right alignment for image thumbs: let’s the software well place them, they will be left-aligned in RTL languages. (undocumented)
  • You should use as short as possible one-word tvar names, digits are often a good solution. (Meta guidelines, #Translation variable names)

Pols12 I will make the revisions and get back to you. About item 1, however: although I have read it, the pages I used as examples close the tag, why? --Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 18:09, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are unfortunately many pages which do not follow the recommendations, but this make them harder to edit for editors and may cause some issues.
Also, some translation admins deliberately segment each sentence independantly. In this case, you are obliged to close the translate tag just before opening a new one. I don’t see a real interest for this kind of hard segmentation, but this is only my point of view. -- Pols12 (talk) 18:23, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Pols12 the corrections in User:Felipe da Fonseca/test have been made. I am not sure if the link tag is correct. --Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 18:26, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Much better, thank you for following the advices. I have removed the hash sign (which uselessly complexify tvar name) and some useless translate tags (the segmentation issue we discussed).
Support Support now. -- Pols12 (talk) 18:34, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Pols12 I saw it, thank you very much for the lessons. Is it possible to have this page marked for translation, so I can see the result in practice?--Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 18:37, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Next time, you will be able to do it by yourself -- Pols12 (talk) 20:06, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Pols12 thanks, I just saw it. I wanted to see how the links and segmentation would look like: it is perfect. If you want you can remove the markup. --Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 20:08, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Matiia (talk) 20:06, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
