It appears only the last 4(?) monthly XML dumps are available (pre language wiki), renewing on a rolling basis. Whatever the actual number/rationale, it would be useful if this page (and the dump listings page?) recorded this scope/limitation of access. It's useful, if you need to go back and re-retrieve data, to know the rough time window you have in which to do so. Mwra (talk) 13:00, 30 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

There are some statistics on Mirroring Wikimedia project XML dumps. --Nemo 13:57, 30 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Media used with permission[edit]

@ArielGlenn: In the "Downloading media" section, this page says "The Wikimedia Foundation has permission to use certain images..." How can this be accurate? Content is under a free license. Any content which would only have legal permissibility due to specific permission wouldn't be allowed on the projects, unless I'm very much mistaken. --Yair rand (talk) 22:47, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Some images are uploaded directly to the projects under fair use permissions; this is much more restrictive than a free license. See https://dumps.wikimedia.org/legal.html for legl information, and https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Copyright for fair use (nonfree) image uploads. I'm answering this in my volunteer capacity obviously, since IANAL etc. -- ArielGlenn (talk) 04:46, 31 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
@ArielGlenn: I know there are images used that are allowed under fair use, but I think that's different than having permission to use certain images. There aren't any non-free images that the copyright owners have specifically given permission to use, are there? Am I misreading the page? It sounds like it's saying that the WMF has been given certain permissions that other groups have not been given, independent of normal fair-use rules. --Yair rand (talk) 04:59, 31 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
The fair use images are fair use in the specific context and use on the projects, in the specific articles; someone else downloading them doesn't get that exemption automatically. Additionally there are Wikimedia logos which are subject to the trademark policy. If you think the wording is confusing, feel free to fix it up though. -- ArielGlenn (talk) 05:45, 31 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Dead Links[edit]

The external links to 'flaggedpages table schema', 'flaggedrevs table schema', and 'geo_tags table schema' all return an 'Object is not found' error. (Luckily, the contents of all three pages have been archived through the Wayback Machine.)
