Localization of campaign and social media[edit]

Can we have more relevant campaign in leading languages in India, social media strings like Facebook profile pic banner for contributors will help to get significant attention for fundraising :Kasyap (talk) 09:22, 7 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Kasyap,
Thank you for the suggestions. I will pass them on internally. Best, JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 11:28, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Kasyap,
Following up on your localisation suggestion I have discussed this with the team. As there are a wide range of local languages in India, we currently do not have the bandwidth to make the fundraising campaign available in this many languages. To avoid favouring any of those, we decided to run the campaign in English only. Thank you for your understanding,    JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 08:21, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Report WMF money to India?[edit]

Are you able to report the amount of money that the WMF has sent for "Investments in the Indian communities" in the past few years? I am hoping that you can share existing annual reports which you already have which track this. Thanks. Bluerasberry (talk) 13:21, 8 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Bluerasberry,
This is slightly out of the scope of this meta page. I add below some links here that might be useful.
You can find information around the regional grants approach on meta and the page about the SAARC region does include some funded projects. There is also the report on Grantmaking for the fiscal year 2019-2020 and for the fiscal year 2020-2021 which might answer some of your questions.
I hope these are useful. Best, JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 11:27, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@JBrungs (WMF): Thanks, I asked at Talk:Grantmaking/Reports/2020-2021.
Excuse me, I must have miscommunicated. I was asking about the money because you wrote "several projects were funded by the WMF to help the Indian communities thrive and grow". I am asking if you can report the amount of the funding to those projects.
Thanks for linking to that granting page. It is helpful, but that grantmaking report also does not have dollar amounts, so I asked there also. Maybe the person there will say, but if you know the answer or know the person to whom I should direct the question, then tell me. Thanks. Bluerasberry (talk) 11:44, 17 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Repeated emails even after making a donation[edit]

Some Indians are noting a problem with the automated emailers. Apparently they continue to send donation requests repeatedly even to those who made donation. https://www.facebook.com/deemopahan/posts/10159230509968878 Shyamal (talk) 03:24, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Shyamal (and also @Asaf (WMF)),
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will reply here rather than on Facebook in case other people come here with similar problems. I would be grateful if you could pass my answer to the Facebook place you found the question.
I'm sorry that Deepa Mohan (and maybe others) received a fundraising email so soon after donating. We endeavor to prevent recent donors from receiving these emails. They may have donated in the past using more than one email address, or donated just after we ran a filtering scan on recent donations prior to sending this email. If they do have more than one email address, they may choose to unsubscribe their accounts so that they do not receive reminder emails in error -- the opt-out link can be found at the bottom of the email in question. We also offer the option to unsubscribe from any future emails from the Foundation once they have received their initial 'thank you' email -- there's a link at the bottom of the email that takes you to our one-step opt-out option.
I hope this helps. Best wishes, JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 06:30, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Where was this page advertised?[edit]

Dear Julia, could you let me know where you advertised this page? I have only just discovered it – the only place this page is linked to on Meta seems to be the talk page for the 2020/2021 grantmaking report.

The only discussions of the Indian fundraiser I was aware of was the one I started at Talk:Fundraising#Indian_email_texts in May and the more recent ones about the Indian Express interview at Talk:Fundraising#Raju_Narisetti_interview:_most_of_the_money_is_flowing_into_the_Global_South and on Wikimedia-l.

I now see that there were community sessions on March 14, 16, 22. Could you say how many people took part in these sessions? What was the mix – mostly Indians, or mostly people from North America/Europe? And is there a summary of what was said somewhere? Regards, Andreas JN466 13:47, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Pinging WMF communications in-charge(?) @RASharma (WMF): for India. Shyamal (talk) 15:06, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi,
Yes this page was created for the Indian communities to keep them informed with what is going on around the fundraising campaign and give everyone interested a chance to engage. This was advertised on the relevant community mailing lists as well as with key stakeholders in the region. Best, JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 05:29, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Julia. Just for reference – which mailing lists were those? Was there anything on-wiki, say Village Pumps? If not, that might be an idea to increase participation. (Note that en:WP is also the home wiki of many Indian editors.)
And how many people did you have participating in the March community sessions, and where can people find the records of the discussions? Best, --Andreas JN466 11:29, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
The updates were sent to WikimediaIndia l. The community sessions were not well attended and not recorded. Two had no attendees and one had a couple and we had a very brief chat. Best, JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 11:37, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much. --Andreas JN466 15:38, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
