Blocked For "Maligning A Bot" and "Disruptive Editing" "Using the Talk Page as a Forum" and "Inappropriate Discussion"

Based on my understanding of the rules which I read throughly EvergreenFir, the woman who blocked is making up rules because she didn't like what I wrote and the sources I quoted.

The article was about fat acceptance and fat feminism. EvergreenFir, claims to be a womens studies professor. Apparently, my quoting a critic of fat acceptance and fat feminism upset her and it seems to have upset you as well. That said, will you answer the following questions?

1. Precisely what is a a bot and how can one malign it?

2. Based on my understanding of the guidelines and based on the fact that I only made one edit and no reverts what was it about my edit that was disruptive?

3. A forum is a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. Is that not the purpose of the talk page?

4. It seems to me, other erudite folks in the language arts and constitutional experts that "Inappropriate Discussion" is a vague and subjective term designed to create a false justification for banning unpopular speech. Why are they wrong? 5. Banned Links: Without explanation or justification links to Bigger Fatter Blog and NAAFA, a parody site were banned. It is interesting that ABC News and Barstool Sports quotes Bigger Fatter Blog If ABC News, an information organization that hires the best and the brightest deems Bigger Fatter Blog a credible source what gives wikipedia, an organization that relies on anonymous editors with questionable skill and motives the temerity to question the validity of Bigger Fatter Blog and its owner Fat Bastardo? Somebody made that decision. Can you tell me who or why? This was my first edit and based on what I have read over the past few days about the decline of Wikepedia and its mass exodus of qualified editors I am beginning to get a clearer picture of how things work now at Wikipedia. I came here in good faith and ended up getting disrespected and lied about.

Is this an appropriate way to treat a person with whom you don't agree?

Is this an appropriate way to build a community?

Is this appropriate stewardship of Wikipedia?

I am asking that my edit and links be restored and that the block is lifted. If you are unwilling to do this simple and correct action would you explain why?

Thank you.

Seig Fritz

Hi. It seems like you have some issues with contributions at the English-speaking Wikipedia. That is something that I can't do anything about. You have to bring that up locally. Stewards can't overrule local community as per policy. On the other hand I can't see that your account is blocked on any wiki. -- Tegel (Talk) 11:42, 30 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Unjustified block

Hi, it appears that you have blocked me by mistake. Please, correct this.

When I attempted to edit a page, I found this:

"Your IP address has been blocked on all wikis.

blocked

Hello Tegel, when I try and create a new account on Wikipedia, it says that you have blocked my IP globally. Can you help me with this? Please see error text below - what should I do?

our IP address is in a range which has been blocked on all wikis.

The block was made by Tegel (meta.wikimedia.org). The reason given is Open proxy.

Start of block: 13:28, 4 February 2017 Expiration of block: 13:28, 4 February 2018 You can contact Tegel to discuss the block. You cannot use the "Email this user" feature unless a valid email address is specified in your account preferences and you have not been blocked from using it. Your current IP address is 192.95.51.138, and the blocked range is 192.95.0.0/18. Please include all above details in any queries you make.

Hi, Yes, it's blocked because of massive abuse from the ISP's customer. However, the block is "anonymous only" witch means that if you create an account from the IP-address that you are using right now you can login from the blocked IP-address and edit. -- Tegel (Talk) 14:36, 24 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why was I blocked? Justkarl05 (talk) 10:28, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Your account is not blocked on any wiki. If you can't edit it must be that the IP-address that you are currently using is blocked. To be able to investigate we need to know the IP-address you are using. -- Tegel (Talk) 10:31, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have not commented your edits on Wikipedia in English. I have nothing to do with what happen over there and your block. My concern is when you do cross-wiki abuse posting the same message on the same users talk page on 10 wikis and that is the reason why I locked your account. Keep the discussion on the wiki where you having the issue. You can still edit your en.wiki talk page that belong to your current account. Can you creation an local on enwiki. I canot. HyperMario1234 (talk)

Hi. Can't you create a local account on enwiki? I can't create it for you. It is created automatically when you are logged in and move over to enwiki. It might be that there is a filter or a black list that prevent you from creating the account, but that takes time to investigate. Based on the number of wikis where your account is blocked you seem to have bigger problems to solve first. -- Tegel (Talk) 08:12, 5 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Recent edit

I noticed you reverted my edits. Let me explain. A WMF ban does not enhance a local ban, it replaces it completely. If it only augmented it, then the community could, if they wanted, revoke the ban and let the individual edit. In this case however, the WMF have taken that ability away from the communities. Additionally, many of the WMF bans did not start out as community bans and therefore they are not enhancing anything, they are the ban. Cheers! Artickle (talk) 17:44, 30 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

The IP-range is blocked because of a vandal that is returning over and over again. Then the only option we have to protect the projects is to place a block. Something wrong with Terms of use/bg

Hi, Tegel! Thanks for reverting those vandalisms on Terms of use/bg. I'm afraid that something wrong happened here though. Not sure where that difference comes from—if I try to edit the translations, they seem correct. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem possible to simply revert the page to FuzzyBot's version (either I don't have the necessary rights, or it's impossible at all for translated pages). I'll appreciate if you could possibly help.
— Luchesar • T/C 21:32, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

That looks strange. That particular section is reverted in the translation so why doesn't it show up? Translation pages is a little bit odd, so I think that we need someone that is better on that type of pages than me to have a look at it. -- Tegel (Talk) 22:08, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Your IP address is in a range which has been blocked on all wikis

Hello Tegel, I run a bot [4] in the french wiki that handle the "Did you know" section on the main page and other stuff. It stopped working on the 22th of june with this message:

Code: globalblocking-ipblocked-range
Text: Your IP address is in a range which has been blocked on all wikis. The block was made by Tegel

Could you please unblock this ? Did you need the IP adress of my server which I could send to you by email ?

This is urgent.

Thanks in advance--Ghoster (talk) 22:58, 23 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

About the blocks for Topmaniac

Hello,
After Steward requests/Global/2018-06#Global block for IP ranges of Topmaniac done by Green Giant, I have thought that the projects would be protected from the vandal + troll using Topmaniac = Wild Draw Four = Acquiescence2 = Skiyomi = Sierpnia (and = Eltafez according to English checkusers) (and certainly also Rilancia and Seiyena, cf. this request by PlyrStar93).
So, I have been surprised to see that 216.49.118.240 could make their usual vandalism yesterday, on Meta-Wiki. I thank you for the reverts and the local block of 216.49.96.0/19.
I have just re-read the page Global blocks: I was not really conscious that "The GlobalBlocking extension can block an IP address or range [...] from editing all Wikimedia projects except Meta" and that, with global blocks, "account creation from the blocked address(es) is prevented". But I still have one question about the blocks for Topmaniac:

  • The local block of 96.31.192.0/20 is active until 7 November 2018 (account creation disabled, cannot edit own talk page).
  • The local block of 209.239.96.0/20 is active until 25 August 2018 (anonymous users only, account creation disabled, email disabled, cannot edit own talk page).
  • The local block of 216.49.96.0/19 is active until 25 December 2018 (anonymous users only, account creation disabled, email disabled, cannot edit own talk page).
  • The global block of 96.31.192.0/20 is active until 17 September 2018 (anonymous only).
  • The global block of 209.239.96.0/20 is active until 17 September 2018 (anonymous only).
  • The global block of 216.49.96.0/19 is active until 17 September 2018 (anonymous only).
  • So, it is absolutely sure that Topmaniac can not vandalize+troll Meta-Wiki until 25 August 2018, and can not vandalize+troll the other projects until 17 September 2018, except with potential sleeper accounts or with new IP ranges. Am I right?

To have his ISP to terminate his internet connection? Thanks for returning over and over again. More data to put in the report. -- Tegel (Talk) 17:39, 26 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
First off, how do you know I am a he (although I am one)? Second, what have I done that any ISP will care about. For me to be booted I'll have had to break a law or cause a loss to the ISP, and socking doesn't constitute as either. 67.142.96.157 00:40, 27 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
I don't know if you are a he or a she. It doesn't matter in this case. Have you read your operators "Terms of Service" and "Acceptable Use Policy"? When our block of your IP-address starting to affect your ISP's other paying customers they normally start thinking with their wallet and is kicking out the troublemaker to keep their other customers happy. -- Tegel (Talk) 06:55, 27 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Tegel: The problem with that logic is statistically speaking very few people edit (and that pool is shrinking every year), an even smaller percentage of that care enough to complain to the ISP if they can't edit and an even smaller number is going to complain enough to get the ISP's attention. So your talking 1/10th of 1/10th of 1/10th of a 1%. That's hardly worth the ISP's time. Of course if the WMF really cared about the collateral damage, they would make better tools, the people who use those tools would do better due diligence when they used them and the blocks and bans would be limited in duration rather than perpetually indef. So it's hard to have sympathy for the WMFs editing troubles when they themselves do almost nothing to help improve the problem. 138.162.0.41 15:04, 11 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
It's up to the ISP to decide what they want to do. Meanwhile we will continue to block LTA's and banned user as your self and the user above. -- Tegel (Talk) 15:40, 11 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

As a digital nomad, my IP address frequently switches between co-working spaces/cafes and my LTE connection. My LTE connection: 46.134.144.71 has been blocked for vandalism even though I am always logged into Wikipedia when viewing/editing. As such, I would like to request an unblock for my IP address range for my account and feel free to ask if you have any questions. Cheers. It is worth noting I do not have a user page on Wikimedia but I do have one on Wikipedia.

Clarevoyance (talk) 09:12, 4 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I will see what can be done. There is a long term vandal that is also operating from the same mobile operator. What you could do is to contact your mobile operator and ask them to act on our abuse reports. Then the vandals mobile account can be terminated and we can lift the block. -- Tegel (Talk) 12:48, 4 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Chuck Entz, as a local sysop you should be able to select the revision and change visibility. You should have three options - Revision text, Edit summary and Editor's username/IP address. Is something different at enwiktionary? Maybe I missed something. -★- PlyrStar93 Message me. 05:20, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes. This isn't ordinary revdeling: only someone with oversighter privileges can do anything to those edits. Chuck Entz (talk) 05:26, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
The issue is that the account is suppressed and then can't the edits be revdeleted normally. Fixed now. -- Tegel (Talk) 10:29, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Since Wikipedia is blocked in my country, the only way I access is through VPN. It is fine when I try to only observe pages, but I am also trying to complete a page, https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Ketchum, of which I've completed so far when I was in Germany. Bonjour

Blocked and I don't know why

Hi Tegel you have blocked my IP address on all wikis and I have no idea why and I have no idea what Open Proxy is. The IP address is 185.216.34.82. I have been working away on Wikimedia Commons as usual while I was on Austria on a holiday break over the last 3-4 days and using my hotels wifi. Has this something to do with it? Anyway I'm back home now (in Salford) and would be grateful if you could unblock me urgently. Ardfern (talk) 14:33, 13 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

VideoWiki Demo Article Deletion

Hey Tegel,

You had recently deleted https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Actue_Visual_Loss

I am aware about the Meta inclusion policy. This article is meant to be the script for the demo article of VideoWiki (which is a proposed sister site) and not an encyclopedia article at all . The aim of VideoWiki is to visualize the sum of all human knowledge (aka Wikipedia). We are starting of by visualizing Medical summary videos (hopefully) and this is our first demo.

You can find more information about VideoWiki at: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Video https://www.videowiki.org/

I would request you to kindly reverse your deletion.

Vicipaedia puzzle

Hi Tegel. I write to you because you have often helped us on the Latin Vicipaedia. This is just a small puzzle which possibly you or another steward will understand better than we do: perhaps someone there knows all about it already. There has been a series of strange edits on random pages on Vicipaedia, early in 2018, ceasing in April, now beginning again. For some examples, see the recent edits at la:Laboratorium and la:Charta. The edits are often reverted by the same anonymous user soon after they are made. In some of the earlier edits a personal name appears (but we have no idea how that person is connected to the edits). You will see the name if you look at old edit 3341916 at "Virologia". Searching on that personal name via Google reveals that similar edits have been made on a few other non-Wikimedia sites.

Forgive me if this is all a waste of time! Andrew Dalby (talk) 14:29, 27 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
