WikiCite 2016/Proposals/Citing and annotating maps and images
Proposal[edit]
I would like to propose a discussion of how we can improve the handling of images and maps as sources.
Background[edit]
It is usually easy to find a citation with text-search or the page that is given in the citation. Images (for example a plate of 100 specimen drawings) and especially maps can be very large and finding for example the source for a village name on a map, could require complex image searches. I would like to discuss the idea and get the ball rolling on how this could be handled. For example annotating a map and saving the (x|y) coordinates and including that information in the citation. Clicking on the situation would ideally highlight the place on the image where the original information is displayed.
Aim[edit]
Ideally we can gather some ideas or publish a first concept.
