Cornelius and Nicole organised a WMCON Follow-Up Day as a pre-conference day before Wikimania (June 23rd)

As a part of the engagement process of the Wikimedia Conference 2016 and the strategy to make it more sustainable, the Program and Engagement Coordinator (PEC) for the Wikimedia Conference (Cornelius Kibelka), took also part in the Wikimania 2016 in Esino Lario. Cornelius and Nicole organised a WMCON Follow-Up Day as a pre-conference day before Wikimania (June 23rd) and took part in other meetups to follow up major topics of the Wikimedia Conference.

The WMCON Follow-Up Day was hosted by Wikimedia Deutschland. It was designed to be a space not only for the participants of the Wikimedia Conference but also for other interested people to discuss topics of the Wikimedia Conference and develop them.

Activities

In preparation for the WMCON Follow-Up Day the PEC discussed with the several people what next steps were useful to be taken and where specific input is needed. In close coordination with them, the PEC organised the space for six different thematic sessions at the Follow-Up Day, each 90 min long, in two parallel tracks.

Nicole Ebber (WMDE) hosted on possible future scenarios for the Wikimedia Conference. Main challenge is the growth of the Wikimedia movement, which is not reflected in the conference's budget. Participants discussed also the eligibility criteria and possible contents of the conference.

EU Advocacy

Dimi led the discussion plans for advocacy campaigns in different European countries

Dimi Dimitrov (FKAGEU) discussed with participant the current status of FKAGEU's plans and further opportunities for advocacy campaigns in different European countries. Freedom of Panorama was the main issue to be discussed. There is no extensive summary of the discussion available

Affiliates Strategy

Nicole Ebber (WMDE) hosted a space to discuss the needs and possibilities for a strategy for the Wikimedia affiliates. Participants agreed on the necessity of creating a minimum set of things/activities a Wikimedia chapter should do to be defined as a Wikimedia chapter. Other participants added that a maximum list of activities should also be created.

Comparison of large international article writing and photographic contests

Nikola Kalchev and Vira Motorko discussed with the participants about the main pillars for international article writing contests and photo contests and how they could be adapted (and localized) for different countries and communities.

Raimund Liebert (WMAT), Veronika Krämer (WMDE) and Muriel Staub (WMCH hosted a session on the Volunteers Supporters Network (VSN). The VSN is a network which was created to help Wikimedia organizations with their volunteer support.
