2022-03-16: Czech Wikipedia has reached 500,000 articles![edit]
Thousands of volunteers have decided to enrich the world with the sum of all human knowledge during almost twenty years. And they have reached an impressive half a million articles! The article with the serial number 500,000 is Pythidae; the article was created on Wednesday, March 16, after 3 pm. Read more in our blogpost by long-time wikipedian Aktron (Czech only).

2022-03-29: March WikiGap kicks off: let's get more women on Wikipedia[edit]
Women make up only 10% of all Wikipedia editors. For every one article by a woman, there are 5 by a man. That's why Wikimedia Czech Republic, in collaboration with other partners, is organising WikiGap 2022. The month-long challenge kicks off on 1 March and aims to change the gender imbalance on the world's largest online encyclopedia.
The fourth annual WikiGap event takes the form of a month-long challenge to create articles about women and by women. Anyone can edit Wikipedia, so anyone can get involved. Just add the hashtag #WikiGap2022 in the edit summary box. For those who can't edit, the association has prepared several free online and offline events to help them.
Editathons (editing marathons) will take place:
- March 10, 2022, 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.: Opening Editathon at the American Center in Prague (you can participate online via Zoom)
- March 20 2022 Weekend online editathon via Zoom
- March 30: Wiki Gap in Brno at the Moravian Library (online participation possible via Zoom)

2022-03-16: Senior editathon - WikiGap 2022[edit]
What is WikiGap 2022?
This is the fourth international event to be held in the Czech Republic and that aims to increase the number of women editing Wikipedia and to expand the number of women's topics on the Czech Wikipedia in general.
Under the wing of our [Writing Wikipedia] educational program, we offer (not only) participants in our senior Wikipedia writing courses the opportunity to take part in a special editing marathon! We will reward participants who enhance Wikipedia with a small virtual medal.
This event will take place on Thursday 24 March from 16:30 to 19:30 online on the ZOOM platform, led by our experienced trainers.
This is undoubtedly the perfect continuation of your journey through the wonderful world of Wikipedia.

2022-03-18: Student online editaton - WikiGap 2022[edit]

WikiGap 2022 is an international event, which will be held in the Czech Republic for the fourth time that aims to increase the number of women editing Wikipedia and to expand the number of women's topics on the Czech Wikipedia in general.
We've already written about the opportunity for seniors to participate in this amazing event, but we haven't forgotten about the students either! We are also offering them a special online editing marathon!
The event will take place on Sunday 27 March from 15:00 to 17:00 online on the ZOOM platform.

2022-03-28: Student editathon in Olomouc - WikiGap 2022[edit]
WikiGap 2022 is an international event, which will be held in the Czech Republic for the fourth time that aims to increase the number of women editing Wikipedia and to expand the number of women's topics on the Czech Wikipedia in general.
On Thursday 31 March 2022, from 14:00 to 17:00, an editathon for local students will take place at the Grammar School Olomouc - Hejčín as part of the WikiGap 2022 initiative.
During the basic introduction, we will look at how to create, edit, translate, or add images, quotes and other items.

Educational programs[edit]
2022-03-11: FIRST SENIOR ADVANCED COURSE IN 2022![edit]
Six "Seniors Write Wikipedia" courses for beginners are running (or have already run) this calendar year. But we have decided to start another one, but this time not for beginners, but for advanced users.
So if your Wikipedia journey is far from over and you would like to delve even deeper into the world of Wikipedia with our tutor, this course is for you!
The 6-session course Seniors write Wikipedia for advanced learners will take place from 28 March 2022 to 9 May 2022. The course will be taught by Martin 'Bazi' Strachoň. The course will be held online on the Google Meet platform.
So if you have the desire and time Mondays from 13:00 to 15:00, feel free to sign up here!
2022-03-14: WE ARE OPENING A NEW BEGINNER'S COURSE ON WRITING WIKIPEDIA FOR SENIORS[edit]
As we wrote in the previous update - this year 6 courses "Seniors write Wikipedia" for beginners have been held or are still running. But it doesn't stop there! We are opening the seventh such course.
Interested in editing Wikipedia? Do you want to enrich the internet? Do you want to learn new things? And all this under the guidance of an experienced tutor? If you answered "yes" to these questions, feel free to sign up for our course.
When does it all take place?
The course [Write Wikipedia] for Beginners will be held from 8 April 2022 to 20 May 2022 and will be taught by Zdeněk 'Hugo' Moravec. The course will be held online on the ZOOM platform.

2022-03-18: Brandýs nad Labem opens a new course for seniors[edit]
We've posted a lot of information about new Wikipedia writing courses in the last few days, and now we're bringing you more!

When does it all take place?
The course [Write Wikipedia] for Beginners is a 6 lesson course from 29 March 2022 to 3 May 2022, taught by Filip 'Namathur' Valihrach. The course takes place in the study room of the Eduard Petišek Library in Brandýs nad Labem.

2022-03-10: The EDU team is finally complete![edit]
After difficult months, when the team of educational programmes was based on one person, it is finally completed. The first addition to the team is Jan Sýkora - the new coordinator of educational programs. After Jenda, the second addition to the Wikimedia CR team is Pavel Bednařík, who became the main lecturer and methodologist of the team of lecturers in February this year.
