Description of activities and learning[edit]

Each of the programs have their objectives (listed on grant page). This section will describe how the activities during the 1st Quarter lead contributed towards their fulfillment.

Educational Program[edit]

Education Program

Goals met by this activity

The goals of the education program is to expand the knowledge and inform larger share of the population about Wikipedia and all Wikimedia projects. Thus, for that purpose, the activities got carried at the "Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics" - Skopje.

In order for better education via Wikipedia, we organized a video shooting at the previously mentioned Faculty at the Institute of chemistry. The results were 19 chemistry experiments that show the acts and the reactions of the experiments itself. Those videos are uploaded on Wikipedia.

The principal goal of newly founded Wiki Club was to be themed in computer science (that's why it was organized at "Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering" - Skopje) and to attract it's students and other interested people to be productive at Wikipedia. 9 people got included of which three were new Wikipedians and created 20 articles.

Some considerations

The editing event at the "Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics" was planned mainly for the students and themed to be about physics a.k.a. what the students were studying.

The original plan at the Wiki Club was to have four editions trough out end of February and March, but due to COVID-19 delays, we only got 2 of them being organized.

Community[edit]

Editing competitions

Goals met by this activity

With the editing competitions, we are joining forces to create as many articles as possible within a certain longer time period. A jury then decides the winners, who are awarded. This quarter we organized 1 editing competition with remarkable outcome of 1 created and 141 improved articles by 3 editors who participated.

Some considerations

Considering our aim to turn attention to the eastern part of the region of Macedonia, the Pirin part of Macedonia, we decided the topic to be named "Settlements in the Pirin part of Macedonia". Almost all of articles were previously created, so that's is why the high number of improved articles.

Edit-a-thons

Goals met by this activity

The edit-a-thons aim to increase community spirit in working towards a common goal on a certain topic that has been agreed as being of importance. Quality is improved both by covering missing topics and by extending existing articles. In this first quarter we held 1 edit-a-thons.

Some considerations

The edit-a-thon on Human rights topics was organized with the Institute of Human Rights - Skopje by our provisioned program for work. The Institute, and it's members, for the first time had collaboration with Wikimedia Foundation. The edit-a-thon was at American Corner - Skopje after which they where supported logistically by our knowledge with know how, information and other stuff, thus on the edit-a-thon our organization helped also with presentation and instruction of the participants for editing, creating articles and working on Wikipedia.

Editing weekends

Goals met by this activity

With our editing weekends, we encouraged Wikipedians to devote more of their free time in writing on relevant topics for the duration of a given weekend. Considering that and having in mind the aim to reach the number given according to the annual plan, this first quarter we had 7 editing weekends where 9 users participated creating 66 new articles and 10 improved ones which indicates that we met the goal so far.

Some considerations

Considering our aim to reach the number and improving their quality (to be as much close to the other most developed and numerous Wikipedia's language editions) and to be linked to current events in the world we decided the topics to be: "Austria", "Human Rights Fighters", "Drama", "Meteorology", "Greek Mythology", "Film" and "Towers".

Editing days

Goals met by this activity

With our editing days, we encouraged Wikipedians to devote more of their free time in writing on relevant topics for the duration of a given day. Considering that this first quarter we had 7 editing days where 30 participants (9 different editors) got involved, and we met the goal. 78 new articles and 7 improved articles were the finish results.

Some considerations

Considering our aim to reach the number and improving their quality (to be as much close to the other most developed and numerous Wikipedia's language editions) we chose the topics to be, as follows: "Eskimo-Aleut languages", "Macedonian Women", "American Indigenous peoples", "Mexican states", "Siberian Indigenous peoples", "European National Anthems" and "Flags of the United States".

Partnerships

Goals met by this activity

This quarter of the year, precisely in March, we headed in town of Prilep at the Museum of Prilep. There, with collaboration by the staff, we managed to take multiple photographs so we could upload them. 21 of them got uploaded.

Some considerations

The visit to the Museum of Prilep was planned solely to the Museum of Tobacco (department of the main Museum), but due to generous collaboration of their cultural workers, we gained photographs from the other museum departments.
