Imagining AI Governance in ESEAP: Malaysia Government Plan and Wikimedia Engagement[edit]

Abstract/description[edit]

The Wikimedia Project utilize AI to enhance community participation in knowledge creation, however robust development of AI also pose gobernance and policy risks if its being done without centering human decision making and digital commons. The session will explore the government agenda on AI governance and think about ways for the community to contributes to it.

Relationship to ESEAP or to the theme[edit]

ESEAP community is key to policy development on internet within the region. Therefore it is necessary to gain insight of the community in the development of AI governance regulation in the ESEAP region.

Mandeep Singh, Advisor for the Minister of Digital Malaysia

Mandeep Singh is the Advisor to the Malaysian Minister of Digital. Previously, he was appointed as special function officer to Communications and Multimedia Minister. Mandeep used to work with the Asia Democracy Network and led Bersih 2.0 for electoral system reform in Malaysia.

Mandeep will speak about Malaysian Ministry of Digital's plan for platform regulation, AI and how the Wikimedia community can contribute in the process.
