ESEAP Conference 2024/Submissions/WikiMelayu: Inheriting the Malay Audio Visual Heritage of North Sumatra
WikiMelayu: North Sumatra Malay Audio Visual Heritage[edit]
Abstract/description[edit]
The flow of globalization influences an imbalance in preserving Malay culture and civilization. Apart from that, there is a lack of audio-visual documentation of North Sumatra Malay culture that has a Creative Commons license, as well as limited funds to carry out audio-visual documentation of North Sumatra Malay culture thoroughly and consistently. Therefore, we took the initiative to integrate this audio-visual heritage into Wikimedia Commons with a Creative Commons license.
In this knowledge-sharing lecture, we will discuss the process and challenges faced in inviting cooperation from various parties to create audiovisual documentation of Malay culture in North Sumatra, Indonesia. We will discuss the outcomes of this audio-visual documentation and its current applications. We hope that this story inspires cultural preservation and encourages collaboration between various parties.
