[Wiki Loves Earth 2024: an opportunity for the ESEAP region][edit]

Abstract/description[edit]

Wiki Loves Earth is the biggest photo competition devoted to natural heritage, and this year is going to be its eleventh edition. Each year, the number of participating countries increases, and our goal is to involve more regions and countries. The session is going to present the contest itself, the previous year’s results, and the current state of this year. It also shows the opportunity for the countries that didn’t participate before — take this chance and organize the contest locally in 2024 or plan it for 2025.

Relationship to ESEAP or to the theme[edit]

From the point of Wiki Loves Earth, there are a few countries from the ESEAP region that participated in the contest before (Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia, Thailand, Philippines), and it would be useful for them to know the current state of the contest (if they will participate this year). Also, the rest of the countries from the region never participated (or participated a long time ago), and it can be a new opportunity for them to get to know about the competition and to join in organizing. The theme of the conference touches WLE too, because collaboration in the Wiki Loves Earth community is quite important and valuable. Especially between countries from the same region, as they could have very similar realities and can share them inside the region and outside of it with other countries.
