Re: "Incomplete Wiki Loves Monuments documentation of a country's built heritage". Wiki Loves Monuments is a photo competition: having the lists of recognized monuments of participating countries on a wiki is useful for the competitions scope, but it has never been a goal of Wiki Loves Monuments to have a complete documentation of all built heritage around the world. @Ciell I intended this page to be a pro-Wikimedia page. It is never meant to be made encyclopedic. IMO, removing the mention of WLM weakens the purpose of this page to inspire Wikimedia chapters and user groups around the world to advocate for introduction/implementation of FoP in their no-FoP countries. Anyway, it has backing source (which is an article of WLM website itself about FoP restrictions and the impact on WLM coverage). JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 13:23, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

@JWilz12345 Ah: so you don't mean the actual documentation by WLM, but the coverage of built heritage through the WLM lens. Sorry I misunderstood you there - I (WLM-i member) landed on this page because of the current FoP discussion in the Commons VP.

The blog post you are referring to is over 8 years old and WLM back then was in it's 7th edition; the situation in both Bulgaria and Greece has not changed, but we have several national organizing teams around the world that work with similar constraints. Besides the obvious countries Italy, Greece and Egypt (different but somewhat similar antiques laws), in our 2022 WLM DEI research the organizers of WLM in Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Philippines, and Argentina all flagged the limited FoP in their countries being a barrier in their organization of Wiki Loves Monuments in their country. We invited all organizers but did in the end not speak to all countries: I am fairly sure there are even more countries out there where either their limited FoP or the absence of FoP is a limitation.
