I removed myself since I've been giving it all a little more consideration, and I think it is pretty useless, if I may say so. One reason is the question of repeatability: I've done the two different tests linked to from the page, and I get two different answers: first INTP, and now when I found an allegedly equivalent test where the questions are given in Swedish, it says ISTJ. Thus it seems to me, as a complete novice at psychology, as being somewhat strange. The only possible conclusions I can make of this is:

  1. The swedish questions differ in a significant way from the english
  2. The interpretation of the swedish questionaire is different
  3. I don't understand english (well enough)
  4. I don't understand psychology at all, and these two different answers are actually pretty close.
  5. I don't understand psychology at all, and these two tests are actually answering completely different questions

Hence, I won't do any such tests again, at least until I get a direct order from a professional :)

I passed this test in English and Russian, and sets seemed to be somewhat different, at least at first look, but result was pretty close... It may help if you describe your score in more details. Drbug 18:42, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)

You can't take the test online.[edit]

I am posting here a comment which I sent to the wikipedia-l newsgroup and got no reply:

I noticed that on this page (http://meta.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikimedians_by_MBTI_type) there is a link to an "Online Myers-Briggs test". I would like to include a cite directly from the 2004 CAPT catalog (on my desk):

"Qualified users of the MBTI instrument must meet two basic requirements: Have a four-year college degree from an accredited college or university /and either/ Have passed a college course in psychological educational tests and measurements and have acquired a basic understanding of the theory and uses of the MBTI instrument /or/ have successfully completed a recognized qualifying program, such as the one offered by CAPT.

'Hence, you cannot take the MBTI on the Internet! If someone put a test on the Internet and called it the SAT, and it looked like the SAT and smelled like the SAT, but wasn't endorsed y The College Board, would it still be the SAT? Nope!

Analysis[edit]

If there is some validity in the test and the sample, maybe we can conclude that most Wikipedians are rationlists and introverts! Taking it further(half baked analysis:-)), is there a pattern in that the winners of the election Anthere and Angela are not the NT types, but are more feeling/ sensing types and extroverts in comparison with the close contenders Maveric and Eloquence who are NT Type introverts? Interesting. The overrepresentation of introverts is certainly large enough to be statistically significant. This is especially true since, if I remember correctly, extroverts are more common than introverts in the general population. Isomorphic 03:48, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The general population of the world? Or did you have a particular country (like the U.S.) in mind when you said that? I don't have hard data for you, but my inclination is to say that this would be culturally dependent. It doesn't make sense that people who live in a country with a proverb equivalent to, say, "the nail that sticks up gets hammered down" are doing to favor extraversion; they're acculturated differently from people whose countries encourage other values.
