One Potential UX Approach[edit]

There is a UX/UI Designer on YouTube known as Juxtopposed who has been developing public interest in the course of publishing redesign proposals of well known public platforms/websites, and they recently featured a prospective overhaul of Wikipedia that may offer some insights into how to improve the site for public utility (though it may be best to leave aside the fundraising ideas). I don't agree with all of the proposed changes, but it offers good insights in how to further ease public accessibility of the desktop platform with present technology and standards. Strengthen metrics and reporting[edit]

The overview that links to this page speaks about "strengthen metrics and reporting" but this post doesn't speak about metrics. Most successful webprojects increase user engagement by running A/B tests to improve their metrics. Running A/B tests to improve the count of editors with 5/100 edits per month would be one of the best things to bring Wikimedia forward. ChristianKl10:59, 2 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I assume you are referring to the "infrastructure" goal in the 2023-2024 WMF annual plan (which was written several years later than this recommendation). I don't know if "strengthen metrics and reporting" is supposed to be part of "improve user experience", or a separate sub-goal, but FWIW the plan does talk about improving A/B test tooling (in the SDS2 objective). Of course the WMF and WMDE have been running A/B tests for a long time (I think the first ones were around 2012 as part of the introduction of VisualEditor work?).
The movement strategy recommendation doesn't talk about A/B tests because, well, it's a high-level strategy document. Tgr (talk) 20:35, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
